On the road to Emmaus
associates degree, and adding to that the obvious geographical and financial complications, seminary or Bible College seemed out of the question. I began to pray for an avenue that God would open up in order to equip me with the skills and wisdom I needed in order to be the kind of Christian leader that God called me to be.
Some time later my dad came home with an information booklet on the CLC that he had picked up from a random customer of his. He told me that he thought it looked like something I might be interested in and so I took a look. It really was everything I had been looking for. It seemed like the kind of environment that would further my spiritual growth in the way I was feeling led.
To back up a second, I often equate my coming to Christ with the story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus. It was as if all my life I had walked this road distraught and full of confusion and questions; and that God, whether I knew it or not, had actually been walking alongside me, opening up the answers step-by-step. Then one night, in a moment much like in the story, my eyes were "opened" and I finally recognized that it had been Jesus all along. I only include this story because it was really what sealed the deal in bringing me to the CLC. On the back of that little booklet about the college was written in black marker, "Stranger on the road to Emmaus." God couldn't have been clearer.
I made the only move I could and enrolled at the CLC for their second academic year. In coming to the CLC, I have experienced more than I could have hoped. My love for God and the church has increased exponentially as I have learned more about God's vast character and the immense greatness of the Kingdom He is building. It has been great to go through the program alongside men and women who have a passion for that Kingdom, and who understand what it means to impact the world--to touch the lives of others for the purposes of God.
It has stretched me and challenged me for sure, but the CLC has also allowed me to begin to grasp the wholeness of the Gospel message. I believe that I am much better equipped to carry that message into the community to the Glory of our Father. Above all else, the CLC has instilled in me a greater sense of wonder. I will never stop learning and growing. I have learned to see all aspects of human life as God's school for those of us striving to learn and become more like His Son.
